In June, I half-watched the BET Awards. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly pleased. Chris Rock was an amazingly hilarious host and there were some good performances. One of my favorite parts about the annual award ceremony is the fact that they feature new artist on the “Music Matters” stage. This year Gabi Wilson was one of those artists.
The 17-year old, who hails from Vallejo, California, has already secured a record deal with Sony Music and is currently recording an LP. She has been performing since the age of 5, plays four instruments, and is also a talented poet. Over the years, Gabi has performed on a number of stages in addition to the one at the BET Awards. She’s appeared on Good Morning America and once sang the National Anthem at a Los Angeles Lakers game.
Gabi recently made an appearance on Sway’s Shade45. Get into her performance of her newest single “Good Girls” below.
