Royal Dynamite wins Eureka Ventures Competitions Series at Lehigh University. This was birth of our Artisan Abroad Program. Royal Dynamite Co-Founder, Nadia Sasso and former student of Lehigh University submitted a business proposal to EUREKA! Ventures Competition Series at Baker Institute For Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation at Lehigh University. This series of student competitions seeks business proposals with the potential to make a positive impact through the pursuit of innovative thinking and sustainable business models.
Sasso was instrumental in developing the Artisans Abroad Program “Color Couture” program with Royal Dynamite as it aims to inspire Artisan from developing countries to pursue their interests in arts and craft by providing a platform to use their artistic talents and begin entrepreneurial endeavors.
The proposal placed second in the social impact category of the venture competition series and Royal Dynamite was awarded a total of $2,500 in prizes: $1,000 in funding and $1,500 in in-kind prizes.
“These competitions give undergraduates and graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni the opportunity to work together to turn innovative ideas into real enterprises… creating economic and social value,” Lisa Getzler-Linn, senior director, programs and operations said. “As a winner, Nadia and the Artisans Abroad Initiative “Color Couture” will be one step closer to launching the venture in doing social good across the world.”
The co-founders recently returned from Sierra Leone to where they put this initiative into action. On July 17th they will officially launch the first campaign in the Artisans Abroad Initiative “Color Couture”. They partnered with an Artisan from Sierra Leone by the name of Mr. Selu who was trained in tie-dye and Batik techniques by Abator Cheedy who is the grandmother of Co-Founder Cecil Williams. This partnership of tie dye t-shirts will hopefully facilitate social change and create economic empowerment through self expression.
The “Color Couture” Collection will be available on 7/17/16 on Royaldynamite.com
